Environmental Best Practices

A massive societal shift is underway—the business world is going green and this is affecting the travel and tourism industry in profound ways. However, if you are trying to green your tourism business, finding the right information can be daunting and confusing.  Accordingly, Tourism Vancouver Island has created this section on our website to assist you in finding the latest information on widely-accepted Environmental Best Practices; this allows you to make an informed decision on how to further green your business.

Keep an eye on this section as we build on this rapidly growing and evolving subject. Also, you can visit our Green Blog for additional Green Tourism information.

The recently released Green Your Business: Toolkit for Tourism Operators is a collaborative effort between the CTC, Parks Canada, and TIAC. The Toolkit gives Canadian tourism business owners tips and practical advice for “going green”. The Toolkit provides a Canadian perspective on issues and solutions, and can be read cover to cover; you can also simply pick out the key points relating to your business.

These RETI best practice manuals feature industry leaders that have adopted best practices in renewable energy and energy efficiency, and provide information and guidance to businesses of all sizes interested in realizing these benefits. Through the use of case studies, each manual outlines renewable energy adoption strategies that maximize energy efficiency, minimize environmental impacts, and result in cost savings or increased profitability

The Criteria was created by a coalition of 32 organizations working together to foster increased understanding of sustainable tourism practices and the adoption of universal sustainable tourism principles.
